General Jackson Showboat

2812 Opryland Drive

Our 300-foot paddlewheel riverboat is one of the largest showboats in the country. It boasts four massive decks with a beautiful two-story Victorian Theater located in the center of the boat where live music shows are performed. Both midday and evening cruises offer a variety of entertainment options throughout the year. You'll always find something new just around the bend. Holiday cruises begin mid-November each year, and special cruises includes a festive New Year's Eve celebration. The General Jackson is an experience you'll only find in Music City!

Loved it! The meal was outstanding. Steak was done perfectly. Show was a lot of fun. Great singers! There was time after dinner to admire the beautiful Nashville skyline. I would do this again.

I chose this place as a date night on a Saturday night. The reservation representative was incredibly helpful when I called to book my tickets and to make last minute changes. Parking and boarding are both convenient. The boat itself is in great condition from the decks to the bathrooms and the main hall and offers wonderful views of the river and downtown. The boat is large enough and there's plenty of time before the show starts to get some alone time with your loved one. My only issue was the disappointing food. It was a preselected meal consisting of a kale-based salad, sirloin (dry and overcooked), steamed potatoes, and a scoop of some strange creamed vegetable which I couldn't identify but it tasted mediocre. Service was prompt and friendly. After that, the entertainment was enjoyable especially if you prefer country music. Overall it's a unique date idea and seems appropriate for even young kids but I suggest you book early so you can get the tickets that don't include the meal. You're much better off eating elsewhere beforehand considering the high cost and poor quality of the food.

Funny how sometimes we all have pre-conceived expectations of certain experiences that can often be miles away from the reality. Such was the case with the General Jackson. Clearly they have an excellent marketing department, who successfully paint a compelling picture of the trip. It certainly hooked me when I was researching from Scotland and ended up booking 8 tickets at a not inconsiderable cost. The food was NOT good, and the buffet format simply left me cold. The extra cheese served by way of the entertainment was enough to send us scurrying out of the dining room to seek refuge in other parts of the boat. To be fair, once we left that behind, things improved markedly. It was lovely sitting up on deck with a cold drink enjoying the views along the river as the boat ambled its way into the heart of the city. Unfortunately, some of this tranquility was rudely interrupted with the arrival of about a dozen jet skis who joined us halfway down the river to take turns in jumping the waves created by the wake behind the boat. Suffice to say the ensuing noise wasn't the most relaxing sound! The views of Downtown Nashville from the General Jackson were great, but unfortunately not enough to wish to repeat the whole experience. One of the very few disappointments during our Nashville adventure.

Outstanding lunch and live music show while eating during the 1st hour of the Cruise. Awesome views of the skyline of Nashville and free to roam the entire 300 foot long ship during the return trip to Opryland. Be sure to take the private Captains tour before cruise. It's only $8/person and 20 person maximum.
