Funny how sometimes we all have pre-conceived expectations of certain experiences that can often be miles away from the reality. Such was the case with the General Jackson.
Clearly they have an excellent marketing department, who successfully paint a compelling picture of the trip. It certainly hooked me when I was researching from Scotland and ended up booking 8 tickets at a not inconsiderable cost.
The food was NOT good, and the buffet format simply left me cold. The extra cheese served by way of the entertainment was enough to send us scurrying out of the dining room to seek refuge in other parts of the boat.
To be fair, once we left that behind, things improved markedly. It was lovely sitting up on deck with a cold drink enjoying the views along the river as the boat ambled its way into the heart of the city.
Unfortunately, some of this tranquility was rudely interrupted with the arrival of about a dozen jet skis who joined us halfway down the river to take turns in jumping the waves created by the wake behind the boat. Suffice to say the ensuing noise wasn't the most relaxing sound!
The views of Downtown Nashville from the General Jackson were great, but unfortunately not enough to wish to repeat the whole experience. One of the very few disappointments during our Nashville adventure.
